Update

That museum I mentioned in my earlier post has contacted me. They have increased their salary and benefits offers. They have also indicated that they would be willing to offer a contract (which would do much for my piece of mind). They have addressed many of the concerns that I expressed. I am going to talk with them tonight to clear up a few other questions that I have.

So what do you all think? I am seriously considering taking the job.

I think if you can get contract that states you will have a job with them for at least 4 years go for it. A pay raise plus better benefits is a great thing and it will probably look great on your resume. As long as you are willing to be a bit farther away for that time period I say go for it.

I think you said it best "the good part is that I am a sole director, the bad part is that I am a sole director."

That is really tough. I would give it a day or two. A pressured decision always attracts second thoughts. It would be a one-way contract, right..you could drop it with no problem?

It would look good on a resume...then again would you want your resume to be best applied to large or small museums? Take the job that best matches the direction what you want to go for the future.

Man, that is really hard. Call me if you want to talk. This is a big decision!

First: CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

Sounds like they really want you, and from my experience I can tell you it is very good to be wanted.

Change and the growth that results from it, is a staple of life. I think you may find that the experience will be invaluable to your career path and personal growth. It is natural to be scared of change, just as it is natural to change.

Consider that at this point, you also have the opportunity (if you want to stay) to leverage your current employer for more $$$. If you're *truly* indifferent, you can always approach your employer and say "I've been offered a position that's X much better. Can you match it?" Don't be too much of a mercenary about it though... :)

Finally, you didn't apply for this new job just for kicks, did you? There *must* have been a reason you applied for this job. ;0)
